January. 2 Years Later

Alright, once again, Molly encouraged me to start this back up. I can't think of any new restaurants that I've tried this month, but I can tell you, I'm no longer hesitant to try new places!

As you may have seen on my facebook page, I tried Oliverio's. I loved it! What an amazing Italian Gem here in Morgantown. I loved the soft music in the background too.

I gave the Kenyan, African cafe another try. The service was still terrible. It's not a place I frequent but my friends like it. (They're Vegetarian and Vegan, and there are plenty of options for them)

Ledo's pizza and pasta has never let me down. If Im in the mood for pizza, it's my go to!

Taziki's is wonderful too. I enjoy going there with my friends. It's the standard cafe, order your meal, and sit down and eat it.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries-- I don't like their burgers, although any MAN I've talked to LOVES them. On the other hand, I LOVE THEIR FRIES! Great thing about their fries, they're only deep fried once, not over and over and over again like so many other fast food places.

The Number One China Buffet at the Suncrest Town Center remains my favorite for a Chinese buffet.

Gotta love NatiCakes and SweetFrog!!! Both are AWESOME! My favorite combo is peanut butter fro yo and cupcake batter fro yo, with reese cup pieces. YUM.

Where else have I been in the last year?

Red Robin. The BEST. BURGERS. EVER. AMAZING FRIES too. Don't be dieting when you go here though, their burgers are served with bottomless fries! Their Ranch (they make it) is amazing too. Stinks that there isn't one in Morgantown though...

Arby's. I never really went to Arby's. I've tried it. I don't like it. It just doesn't taste good to me and it cost more than McDonalds...

Finally went to Ali Baba's (restaurant at the Airport) it's amazing. I love it! Great service, great atmosphere, great quality, and prices. The best part? Getting to see planes take off and land while eating!!!

I remember my favorite restaurant used to be Cheddars. Cheddars has been LOUSY the last few times I went there. I haven't been impressed. My new FAVORITE restaurant is my own "mama's kitchen" :)
Please feel free to leave comments, restaurants you'd like me to try, notes of encouragement, etc.

Until next time, with love to my readers!

July

'Ah July! :) The midst of summer. Swimming pools, and warm lazy days... how I long for those... 2 of my favorite things. Just been busy with going to school, and working... Had friends visiting from North Carolina, and we visited The Brickyard, downtown.

I tried my first ever teriyaki wings! Being that I don't like spicy things, these wings were delicious! I finally began to understand why so many people love wings. My main entree was "fish and chips."  The fish was flaky, which is fine... except for when it's deep fried, like it was. I wanted fish I could hold with my fingers, and instead I had to use a fork... The fries, nothing spectacular... crinkle cut, I could buy them at the grocery. We had a great time with friends. Would I return here? ... Being that Im not into the bar scene, and I didn't like my entree, probably not.

Everything on the menu had cute catchy names; definitely a spot for locals. one example is "The PRT" which was actually a mushroom and swiss burger. Catchy. Definitely catchy.

The atmosphere... pictures of people plastered everywhere; people that have drank more than 10 "long mugs" ... 32 oz beer (don't worry not ALL in the SAME sitting). A few of the tables have church pews for seating, ironic? Maybe. The tables have Dominion Post articles pertaining to Morgantown underneath a glass table top. That's pretty neat... Not something I've seen before...

Im really enjoying broadening my horizons. Although a new favorite restaurant hasn't been found, YET. Suggestions welcomed!

June

I know it's been a while since my last update. I thank my sister for encouraging me to begin this blog. June held a quaint italian restaurant here in Morgantown, that's right... Puglioni's. I was impressed that Puglioni's makes almost ALL of their own pasta!

Also thought it was really awesome that Puglioni's is CLOSED on Sundays. More businesses should adopt this attitude... that's another story for another time. haha.

I remember the paintings in the entrance of Puglioni's seemed to be orange/red brush strokes. Something modern? While that's great, It just made me hungry for bacon. haha. I had the lasagna. The sauce was too sweet. Their homemade bread? That was to die for! The salad...blue cheese dressing lacked something.

The atmosphere was warm, and friendly. Even though upon arrival, it took them a while to seat us. As you well know, I appreciate good service. Hey, then again who doesn't?

Their restrooms were neat, tidy, and clean :). (Another one of those things that everyone loves :p)
I will be visiting Puglioni's again when Im in the mood for italian but just don't want to fight the crowds of the better known chain; "Olive Garden"

Restaurants to TRY

I was telling a friend the other day about this blog, and the reason behind it. When he found out I have yet to go to Wings' Ole... he couldn't believe it! In fact he said "I thought it was the law that if you were from Morgantown you had to have gone to Wings' Ole" So, avid readers, it's true. I really haven't visited much outside of my comfort zone. Let's see a few of the restaurants I haven't tried that Im looking forward to trying include, but of course ARE NOT limited to the following:
Wings Ole
Puglioni's
Kenyan Cafe
Ali Baba's (The one at the Morgantown airport... Im not sure of the current name)
Oliverio's

If you're in the mood for something, a little more... upscale; try
Yesterday's
more of a mom and pop sorta place?
Try "Sam and Betty's"

Again, I thank my readers, and feel free to leave comments about what places you would like me to try :)

May

In May, I tried Mario's Fish Bowl. :) I will say; not for those of you that don't like "the bar scene." This particular business still allows smoking, inside. So, it seems to me that if I were to label this place, I would say it's a smokey hole in the wall sorta bar. haha.

I visited this business with a few friends; late at night. We had (if Im recalling correctly) their fries, and pepperoni bites. In my honest opinion, their pepperoni bites left a lot to be desired (so to speak). They seemed to me, like that extra something, was, well, missing.

Im sure most of you are thinking; Did I have a drink? I did not. I did get to see the famous "fish bowl" in person :) The oversized extra large glass that is called the fish bowl, yep.

I must say it was a pleasure to see the "homage" that has been portrayed on the walls of the fish bowl. All the letters and notes of good times, and bad. :).

Our waitress seemed a little on the cranky side that night, but as I said previously it was late, and Im sure all she wanted to do was close up so she could be that much closer to whatever it was she had to do next....

So if you're a student I would say this is the place to go, if you want a HUGE glass of something to drink, some greasy food, and you don't mind a smokey environment. Otherwise... try somewhere a little more classy, and a little less sassy. ha!

April

In April I tried the new Colessasano's location near the Glenmark Centre off the Pierpont exit. A quaint cafe like diner. My only complaint would be; all of the staff seemed to be high school age. Not that it's a bad thing. All of them seemed eager to work, and help. Our server/waitress had to leave, and another server/waitress took over, and I'd never seen that done before. Our new waitress informed us, and took over, and did a great job!

I shared a pizza with a couple friends, it was delicious. Although I KNOW they're known for their "pepperoni buns"  So of course I had one of those. Oh.My.Gosh. So fresh and tasty! Oh, the pasta salad was good too! So, in the mood for Italian? Give this place a try :)

March

Well friends; March was Chic-n-Bones rhythm cafe :) on Willey Street. As a WVJC student, this restaurant is close by. This restaurant opens at 11am, and often we're their first customers.

The lighting was dim. The restaurant itself smells kinda funny. A friend described it as smokey, with the scent of burgers on the grill.

I've had a grilled chicken salad, it was scrumptious. Even though the only things in my salad were, lettuce, shredded carrots, cheese, and grilled chicken with hard boiled eggs on the side. Although in my opinion, this is THE PLACE in Morgantown to go for a burger! I had a bacon cheeseburger here and I couldn't put it down! I ordered my burger well done, and it still fell apart in my hands. They also offer a "black and blue burger;" many of the girls seem to like it as well as their "mushroom and swiss." I prefer my burgers plain ... yum :)

Our server(waitress) was quiet yet friendly, not overly accomodating, not under accomodating either. So that was refreshing, to have a server come back to the table just the right amount of times.

So next time you're looking for a burger, and you don't mind a restaurant that smells a wee bit funky... definitely seek out Chic-n-Bones!
